Regret

I gave flowers to the Goddess
And the woods were very still
And I listened and I listened
And all I heard
Was the wind whispering by

I lit a candle for the Goddess
And held it up for her to see
And I watched and I watched
And all I saw
Were the shadows from the flame

I said a prayer for myself
And sent it to the Night
It left my lips
Without speaking
It passed my ears
Without listening
It left my vision
Without seeing
It left me standing
Without feeling

I walked home
With Regret,
Cruel maiden:
She fed me
Bitter cherries
And cold pieces
Of yesterday’s dreams
